What to expect
Once a veterinary referral has been received contact will be made to arrange an initial assessment visit.
Patient History
Discuss patients medical history, current medication as well as any behavioral considerations that need to be taken into account. Discuss current exercise and diet if applicable.
Gait analysis
Therapist will observe the dogs gait, posture and transitions between sit to stand etc. Analyse any lameness and weight shifting. Video recording of gait to use as comparisons and help measure progress.

Weight and muscle measurements
Weight in KG taken if needed. Measurements of fore and rear limb circumference taken to understand any imbalances in muscle mass.
Health check
A general health check will be performed at the start of every session to make sure there are no contra-indications before starting hydrotherapy.
Underwater Treadmill

Treatment Plan
Based on your dogs current condition and capability in the underwater treadmill a treatment plan will be recommended. Treatment plans will be reviewed. Muscle measurements will be taken every 10 sessions.
Introduced to the underwater treadmill with the therapist. Gradual introduction of water and movement of the belt. The aim during the initial assessment is to create a positive experience and trust. Full gait analysis may not be possible during the first session until the dog is settled. Length of the time in the underwater treadmill varies depending on how your dog copes and recovers during and after the session.
Professional Feedback
A feedback report will be sent to the referring veterinarian and other professionals involved with your dogs care to keep them up to date with their progress and treatment plan.
Home Exercise
Based on the history, current mobility, lameness and movement in the underwater treadmill, recommendations of home exercise and activities will be given to help promote positive recoveries after hydrotherapy and increased exercise tolerance over time.
